Keeping Children Safe

We take Child Protection very seriously. If you have concerns for the welfare of a pupil of our school, please contact Mrs Ward, Designated Person for Child Protection

We recognise that schools play an intrinsic role in keeping children safe and promoting their welfare. The close, professional relationships that develop between pupils and staff in our school place our professionals in a prime position to recognise signs that may cause concern.

All adults in our school, including volunteers who have regular contact with our children, are subject to Enhanced DBS Checking. Staff and volunteers receive guidance on keeping our children safe in our care and a culture of open, frank and direct discussion is encouraged surrounding the welfare of children. We place the child at the centre of our work.

Our school operates an 'inter-agency' approach to safeguarding and Child Protection and work closely with 'Shropshire Safeguarding Partnership' and 'Telford and Wrekin Safeguarding Partnership'.

The 'COMPASS' portal provides access to specialist services, including:

  • social workers
  • police
  • probation
  • health
  • targeted youth workers
  • family support workers
  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
  • Family Information Service
  • child sexual exploitation/missing coordinator
  • information coordinators

Access to support depends on your home address:

A useful guide to 'Shropshire Safeguarding Partnership' for parents and carers has been compiled, which you can access by following this link.

"What do I do if I'm concerned for the welfare or safety of a pupil at Barrow 1618?"

Our School's Designated Person for Safeguarding & Child Protection is Mrs Anita Ward. Please speak with her directly to bring any concerns you have to her attention - however insignificant they may seem.

In her absence, concerns can be shared with the Deputy Designated Persons, Mrs. Charlotte Hayes (Y5/6 Class Teacher), Mr. Kieran Holmes (SENDCo & Y3/4 Class Teacher) or Mrs Kate Preston (EYFS Lead Teacher).
