Collective Worship
“Collective worship is the unique heartbeat of a Church school and is offered as part of a wider opportunity for pupils and adults to encounter faith by engaging in conversations about God, both as individuals and together”. - Guidance for collective worship, Diocese of England
Collective Worship is a cherished opportunity, every day, for our school community to gather together in thanks, praise, joy, compassion, humility, awe and wonder. Collective worship gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:
- Engage in an act of community.
- Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
- Be still and reflect.
- Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
- Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
- Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
- Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
- Share each other's joys and challenges.
- Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar

We start collective worship with:
“This is the day that the Lord has made”, “Let us rejoice and be glad in it”.
We end worship with a blessing and a prayer.
“May God bless us from head to toe, from outside in, wherever we go”.
Whilst Collective Worship is distinctively Anglican, our school community cherish and celebrate diversity. Through Collective Worship, pupils have the chance to learn about, and from, Christianity and other world religions and spiritual practices. Worship is typically dynamic, meaningful, interactive and memorable; providing a sense of oneness and an opportunity to explore and develop beliefs in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.
Celebration Assemblies
Each Friday, the week concludes with a 'Celebration Assembly'. On a class rota basis, parents and carers are invited to join the worship to celebrate the week's achievements and the achievements of the pupils both within and outside the school. (Please see the school newsletter for class assembly dates). A different class organise and host the assembly each week; choosing the theme and content of the worship, writing or selecting prayers and deciding what music they might like to include. A special 'Barrow Heart' certificate is awarded to a child in each class, in recognition of an act of kindness or good-citizenship and a 'Barrow Star' certificate is presented to celebrate academic effort and achievement. It's the perfect way to end a busy, Barrow week!

Our school prayer
Dear God,
We thank you for our Barrow family filled with love, care and friendship.
Show us how to be team players and teach us to respect everybody’s differences.
Teach us to be curious and help us to be resilient even when things get tough.
With your support, we can climb the highest mountains and reach the furthest stars.
Amen
